While procrastinating writing, I’ve come across lots of tweets saying things like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I wish I was a character in a romance book.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n or<\/p>\n\n\n\n “The only male pov I care about are in romance books.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n I dunno… It kinda seems like people are pedestal-ing the characters and scenarios in romance books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n While it’s true that the idea of a relationship we have when we’re younger doesn’t take into account all the crude edges under the hood <\/em>of the relationship (like compromises, and when things get dull), it doesn’t mean that romance book relationships are so out of reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In real life, people meet all the time under dreamy happenstance – like running from the rain and having to share an umbrella… or while out vacationing somewhere exotic and meeting at one of the tourist spots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But, in real life, even if you meet your new SO when you were waltzing through a field of daisies – there’s going to be some relationship mechanics you both have to work through, like if he likes bowling, but you don’t, and wants to spend some weekends with you bowling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n People are individuals, and in healthy relationships, we must always remember that. When you enter into a relationship with someone, you’re agreeing to share your life with theirs. It’s not going to be about you or them, but about you both. It’s a whole other person you’re accepting – someone who has a history, a future, and a present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As long as you’re mindful of that, then YES, romance book stories absolutely do happen in real life! Just… you’ll need to make some compromises here and there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I think the reason why people think<\/em> romance book stories are so far removed from reality is because they refuse to accept compromise is a part of relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n OMG! I didn’t mean for this to be some kind of relationship post :P… But, yeah. I think it’s just sad that people think romance books depict some sort of mythical experience that never happens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I feel like I should write a book in the Kana Series where the characters have a surrealistic relationship, but also show the compromise side of things.
